I am about two-thirds through the book. It is outstanding. Thank you for taking the principles--which we hear without comprehending--and consolidating them into a revelatory "whole." I have given a copy to my stake president. I have given copies to others. I have recommended it to even more. And, I have more on order. Why? The peace that it brings. I could gush about innumberable principles of understanding, but each person needs to read it for their individual enlightenment and application. I saw revelatory principles on all levels: working with my immediate family, extended family members, fellow Saints directly through church callings and indirectly (what I call daily commandments of inspiration through the Spirit), co-workers, etc. But, what I am trying to share with others is the peace that it brings and the fruits of that peace. Whatever we individually glean from the book, the Spirit will influence us individually in our personal sanctification process. In learning to truly trust Heavenly Father at his word--and His words are exact--the greatest fruit is peace. THAT, to me, is the overriding principle of change. To have the peace to humbly trust as children do. Is that not the characteristic whereby children draw us into the open space of their hearts and spirits? Complete, unbiased, unencumbered love and trust? It is then that we are empowered to allow His love to flow through us. As to the post by "One of the so called 'fallen'": I appreciate your post and your perspective. It is well-articulated and thought out. (And, Bro. Barkdull, I appreciate your well-articulated response.) I pray that through your prayers, and the prayers of your parents, the middle ground will be found for now--so that you may more intimately enjoy your life here to find depth in the relationship--and let God work out and reveal the details in His time. Isn't that the nature of faith? To have faith in God is to have faith in His timing. From your statement, "I see my parents becoming more orthodox each day, devoting more and more to the church and less to the family," I see your frustration in the distancing that may be occurring. Maybe your prayers will guide your parents to not be so busy in well doing that the doing becomes more important than the individuals who are to be served. As to all who read this book, I would recommend a companion reading of Virginia Hinckley Pierce's book, "A Heart Like His: Making Space for God's Love in Your Life." It's a practical primer for inward change. I coincidentally was reading it (I usually have several books going at a time), and found that the universal message of her book enriched the message I was hearing from your book, Bro. Barkdull. Both will be read more than once.

Wanted to leave you a note. I've just read "Our Origin and Destiny," "The First Pillar," and the "Second Pillar" in succession and reviewed them on Amazon.

I think I understand the role these books will play in waking up many in the LDS community to who they really are and to their special calling.

No doubt, the books will find their way into the hands of those who's job it is to raise up a community of saints worthy to meet Christ. And those hands will be strengthened and made more useful as a result of this series.

Thank you for putting your talents toward helping me better sanctify my life. I'll do what I can to pay if forward.

BTW, RaNelle first gave me the assignment to read your series.

Dear Larry,
I read Morning Dove years ago and in fact need to re-read it. I attended Borah High School where I met and loved Cheryl Barkdull. I then went to Ricks for two years and then back to Boise State where I reconnected with her and came to know and love Brian. They were at the institute with us and I now hear of she and Brian in IF every so often.

I read the Shepherds song last year after my mother found it on clearance at Deseret Book. It was amazing and I have shared it with many. I just finished the Master's Touch and love your style of writing and your insights shared in each chapter. My parents were both raised in Driggs and my cute mother, who is 80, has had much fun reminiscing about that time period.

I plan to find your books and read them again. I just finished reading 'The Traveler's Gift'. If you get a chance you might enjoy reading it.

Thanks for sharing your talents.
Sincerely,
Sally Murray
W. Jordan, UT
PS. My husband works for the church and in 2005 we accepted an International Assignment to Ghana Africa. While there I began sending out emails about our experiences and then in 2006 was approaced by our RS President to come to see her new school that she had been assigned to as Head Mistress. That was a day that has changed my life. I began helping her school, Akpormang, with small donations that friends and family would send. Then she and I went onto another school, Ayi Mensa, which consisted of 15 children meeting under a tree. With help, again from family and friends and Forever Young Foundation, we are near completion of our 4th room of Ayi Mensa School. It has been an incredible adventure as we raise money for their building materials and allow the village to build their very own school which allows their younger children, who would most likely not be able to attend, a daily experience in education.

I try to return when possible and oh, how I would love to take you there to use your incredible, insightful writing style to tell the world of humility, simple joy and perserverance in the face of adversity.

Thanks again for sharing your talents.

I read The Shepards Song two christmas's ago and I loved it. I was recently married and now every year I read it with my wife and with my family. It has become a christmad tradition to read it and it always warms our souls and touches our hearts and brings us closer to the Savior. Thank you Larry.

Dear Bro. Barkdull- I am writing to thnk-you for your book-"Rescuing Wayward Children"! It has changed my life. Instead of feeling lost and helpless and hopeless- I feel empowered and know what my duty is! I feel like I have hope again for this precious son! I am learning to love him unconditionally and let him choose- and live with consequences. I am sanctifying my life- and have a whole different perspective about this hard situation.
You wrote this book in such a simple way- as I read it- I cried cause I knew it was TRUTH!

Thank-you so much!

Your words give me so much peace for some reason. You speak to my heart. It's as though you knew the sort of LDS family I grew up in - - partially committed, anti-Mormon dad, extreme negativity towards the Church (even though the Church and its organizations were the one bright spot in my life growing up). Naturally I grew up and went inactive (as did my 4 other brothers and sisters). Zero of the five of us even has a temple recommend, let alone is sealed to their spouse. One brother actually converted to his wife's faith.

Somehow I returned to Church activity a couple of years ago after 12 years of being inactive. Somehow the Church leaders in my ward have been so nice and given me callings which have given me the joy that I used to feel as a youth in the Church. I am a beaten down person in so many ways, but I'm trying to rebuild in a Christlike way. I hope the Lord will continue to keep working with me.
